Privacy Policy

Who we are

This website address is:  I’m just a boring everyday Xphile.  You can find me on tumblr at My own privacy is important to me, and the privacy of any visitors or contributors to the site is even more important.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We really don’t collect much because many of the interactive features have been disabled.  Some third party site plug-ins may use cookies to remember previous responses.  The only data I see is in ‘Analytics’ below.

Contact forms

If you choose to send a contact form, details given will be forwarded to the site email account.  Any information contained on this form is considered private and is not shared  with any other party.

Cookies are used for logging in and commenting. Neither of these options are available to visitors.

Some plug-ins, such as site pop-ups,  will use cookies to remember your response.

Information provided on the site

Author names contained in Fic Lists are usually fudged to stop them coming up if the author’s real name is put in google.  I do this to prevent identification of authors when a real name may have been used originally, and the name is unusual enough that by searching the name alone you can identify the original author.  Lists of fanfiction will normally direct you to the source of the item. In the case of Gossamer, the real name may still be shown on the original file, but the entire site is protected from Google indexing and will not show up on search sites.  The exception of this is when a page is linked to directly by a third party site such as this, which is why I will no longer link to individual stories or even author pages at  I may reconsider linking to author pages on Gossamer that are clearly pseudonyms – I just keep automatically linking to the search page…

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

This website uses WP-SlimStat (, a web analytics service. WP-SlimStat uses cookies, text files that are stored on your computer and that allow an analysis of the use of the website by you. The IP address is shortened in this case, that means  parts of the IP-Address are removed to prevent a clear assignment. I use this information to evaluate page use and requirements of users. This information will not be disclosed to third parties. You can prevent the installation of cookies by setting them in your browser software.

This website uses functions of the web analytics service Google Analytics. Provider is the Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.  I’m sure there’s some browser add-on you can get to stop Google meddling with your life.  I don’t like that they track me all over the web, but I have to use them when it comes to dealing with the stuff they index when I ask them not to.

Who we share your data with

Nobody.  It’s used for website stuff only and will never leave the site. No information will be shared with a third party without your consent.

How long we retain your data

If you send a contact form, the details are retained indefinitely. This is probably because I forget to check my email regularly.

For users who register on our website (if registration is ever enabled), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
