AUTHOR’S NOTE: at the end

As we stood there, naked as the day we were born and starring into each others eyes, the enormity of what we were about to do struck me full force. I closed my eyes and rested my head against his chest.

“Scully?” he asked as he wrapped his arms around me.

“God, Mulder” I took a breath, “what are we doing?”

“If you don’t know, then it really has been too long.” he said as I felt the vibration from his laugh.

I let go of the breath I was holding with a snorted chuckle.

“We don’t have to do this. We could stop, put our clothes back on.” he said.

He could, he would for me. This is why I love him.

“Nothing would ever change.”

He’s right. It wouldn’t and yet it had. It was time the physical caught up with the emotional.

He placed the edge of his right index finger under my chin and tilted my face to meet his. Kissing me lightly, he gave me one last chance to back out.

“Do you want to stop?”

“No” I whispered as pulled his lips back to mine.

What do you think? Romantic, wasn’t it? Now you know how I found myself, naked, astride my equally naked partner on a couch in the den of my mother’s house at 1am. All things considered, it started out well. However, here is were we begin the decent into lunacy.

You would think that two mature, responsible, mildly paranoid (okay, overly paranoid in Mulder’s case) adults who have spent a goodly portion of the last decade being chased by evils unknown would know better than to completely let their guard down, no matter how comfortable or safe they may feel.

I guess what they say about sex making you stupid is true because we were so preoccupied with each other that we both failed to notice the car pull into the driveway or the sound of keys and the front door opening until it was too late.

Hearing the front door close caused us both to jump slightly.

“Shi-” Mulder started as I laid my hand over his mouth to silence him. Leaning forward, I replaced my hand with my lips before issuing a whispered “hush” in warning

“Where’s your gun?” he whispered into my ear.

“Next to yours.” I returned, twisting the corner of my mouth and partially closing one eye. He just rolled his eyes back into his head.

“Burglars don’t make that much noise, Mulder” I hissed “It’s my mother.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.” I whispered as I reached over his head to turn out the small table lamp next to the couch, unable to do anything about the soft lit floor lamp behind the door. Naturally this placed my chest in a position irresistible to Mulder and he held me in place for a moment longer, pressing his lips into the valley that separates my breasts.

“Oh God” I felt him smile as he started to laugh.

Pulling back and leveling my eyes with his own, I glared at him.

“Would you hush!” I hissed through clenched teeth. “This is *not* funny.”

“You’re right”

“Thank you”

“This is down right hysterical.” Mulder buried his face in my neck to stifle the laugh.

Smacking his chest, I whispered “You wont think it’s so funny if she brought Bill back with her.”

“Shit” his face froze in perfect panic face. “She didn’t -”

“We’d hear them talking if she did.” I said as I tried to listen to what she might be doing in the front room.

“What’s she doing here? I thought you said she wasn’t coming home until tomorrow?”

“Obviously,” I glared at him “there was a change in plans.”

“My car is out front, Scully, she knows we’re here.” he wrapped his arms around my waist. “What are we going to do?”

“She probably thinks we are both upstairs in bed -” his chuckling caused me to pause and glare at him again, “separately.” I finished. “We’ll tell her the truth. You backed into my car at work and drove me over here to check the house. We got to talking and lost track of time so you stayed down here on the couch and I slept upstairs.”

“And how do you intend to explain this?” he said with a thrust of his hips, causing me to bolt upright in pleasure.

My breath caught in my throat with the sensation of it before I leaned back and whispered.

“If you *stop* doing that, stay quiet until she gets upstairs, we may not have to.”

“She has to walk by here to get upstairs, she is going to see us.” I really couldn’t believe he was smiling about this.

“There’s no direct light in here. Maybe she won’t.” I wasn’t buying it either.

“You’re in denial. Scully, the bathroom light is on and we’re right in the path of it.”

“Not directly.” I tried to argue but in my mind the only thing I could think was *pleasedontlook-pleasedontlook-pleasedontlook* “Maybe, if we’re lucky, she’ll just think you’re by yourself.” I said.

“When the hell have we ever been that lucky?” he brushed a hand through my hair and down my back before letting it settle back lightly around my waist, sending excited chills through me along the way. “And what if she decides to check in your room once she gets up there?”

“I don’t believe this. What am I, 16?” I let out a groan which I tried to suppress by burying my face in his neck. Then I started laughing and couldn’t stop so I nipped him.

“Ouch” he hissed. “Shh, she’s going to hear you.” he chuckled.

Momentarily forgetting who I was dealing with, I mumbled against his chest “Maybe, we should give her something to listen to.”

“M’okay.” he quipped with a smile and gave three quick thrusts, causing me to gasp.

“Jesus, Mulder.” I bit down on my lips to stop any noise that might involuntarily come out but I couldn’t hide the smile or contain the laugh, among other things, that was making my body shake. “Knock it off, she’s coming.”

“Couple of more seconds, and so will I.” he whispered in my ear before catching my earlobe between his lips.

Hearing her footsteps approach, we both held our breath. When I saw her foot enter the patch of light in the doorway, I squeezed my eyes shut and turned my head away from the door, clutching tighter to Mulder’s chest. Her steps paused for a second as I heard the satisfying click of the bathroom light across the hall being turned off and the room got a little darker, then she continued up the stairs.

We stayed that way until we heard her door close before we exhaled with a sigh that became a laugh. Before I could even think to move or say anything, Mulder flipped me over and crushed his lips to mine as he began to stroke. The tension and adrenaline already had us both on the edge and it wasn’t very long before we both went sailing over it. Collapsing on top of me, Mulder trailed kisses up my neck before ending at my lips.

“Do you think she saw?” he asked, smiling.

“Do you *really* care?” I answered as I narrowed one eye and twisted the corner of my mouth up.

“No.” he softly chuckled.

“I thought so.” I kissed him as I pushed on his shoulder, rolling him off of me so I could get up. Putting my pants and shirt back on (God only knows where my underwear went) he called out to me.

“Where are you going?”

“Upstairs to my room.” I answered as I grabbed the blanket that was lying on the back of the chair in the corner.

“You’re really going to leave me down here?”

“You’re damn right I am.” I heaved the blanket to him. “You’ve already gotten me into enough trouble tonight.”

“Scully” I heard him get off the couch before he grabbed me by the waist, pulling me back to him.

“What” I starred into his eyes, smiling.

“Next weekend,” he kissed me before whispering in my ear, “we’ll go to my mother’s”

When I woke up the next morning, I dreaded going downstairs. I knew Mulder and my mother would both be up and God only knew what Mulder would have said to her without me to run interference.

When I made it to the kitchen, I found them seated across from each other at the table, Mulder stuffing his face with pancakes.

“Good morning, dear.” she said as I kissed her forehead before sitting down between them.

“Morning, mom” I answered as she got up to get me a cup of coffee.

Proving how well we have perfected our silent communications skills, I looked at Mulder and raised both my eyebrows. *Does she know?* Smiling, he raised an eyebrow and glanced at her back then back at me. *I don’t think so*

Letting out a sigh, I smiled at my mom as she set the mug in front of me and sat back down.

“Thanks, mom” I said as I pour cream in my coffee. “How come you’re home so early?”

“Oh, Bill had to leave a few days ago and Charlie’s littlest is sick, so I decided to just drive home last night.”

“That’s too bad.” I said, stirring my coffee and watching Mulder eat. “Sorry I couldn’t go with you.”

“Your brothers understood.” she said. “Did you sleep well?” she asked, causing me to almost drop my spoon.

Hoping I wasn’t blushing like I thought I was, I laid the spoon down and raised the mug to my lips, using it as a shield before answering. “Perfectly. Felt like a teenager again.” Mulder just stuffed another forkful in his mouth.

“That’s good. I was just telling Fox how nice it was to wake up and have someone in the house again, especially one with such a big appetite.”

I smiled, first at her and then him in reply.

“You know, Dana, you really didn’t need to make Fox sleep on that old couch last night.” she said, causing us both to almost choke.

I tried to make my face as impassive as possible as I looked at her.

“Both your brothers’ room have clean sheets on the bed.”

I slumped a little as Mulder chuckled.

“That’s all right, Mrs. Scully,” he glance at where I was trying to hide behind the mug again. “I was very comfortable on that couch.”

“If you say so, dear.”

I finished my coffee while Mulder cleaned off his plate before I stood.

Nodding at Mulder I leaned over and kissed her forehead again.

“We need to go, Mom. I need to get to the mechanic and see about my car before I go to the rental agency.” I paused as Mulder carried his plate to the sink.

“I’ll come back later this afternoon and we’ll go to lunch.”

Mulder gave her a quick hug. “Thanks for breakfast, Mrs. Scully.” he said before walking to the front door as I grabbed my coat and started to follow behind him.

“Oh, Dana” Mom called behind me.

“Yes, Mom?” I turned and saw her leaning against the kitchen door frame, a mischievous grin on her face.

“Nice tattoo, dear.”

Author’s note: And the verdict is? (hint, hint) I bet you thought you was going to get some huge, angsty thing huh?

I feel I should apologise for not explaining *how* they wound up naked in the first place but I could not get my muse to concentrate on anything but embarassing the hell out of Scully.

This is the first time I have ever done this but I am dedicating this to my mom. Face it guys – You’re mother ALWAYS knows. – Samiam
